How the award |
The Green Shed is a workshop situated in Castle Gardens grounds providing support, work and social engagement for individuals with learning difficulties. Service users make small items made of wood which are then sold within the Garden Centre. The award will be used to purchase one multi-cutter, which will cut down the time of certain jobs and a scroll saw for marketry, to make, for example wooden letters and jigsaws. They believe it is important to maintain a high standard of finished products and to widen the range of items that can be produced and sold to the general public. |

The Green Shed have been fortunate in being able to obtain the Multicutter and Scroll Saw from Abbey Décor who let them have the two power tools at cost price. The scroll saw has now been set up and a range of Christmas tree decorations designed by Barry Watts are now being produced. They are cut out and then passed to the service users who sandpaper them and paint them so that they can be sold. The multicutter is used in a similar way to produce and finish off a variety of smaller articles. Again they are finished off by the service users for sale through the Castle Gardens shop.
