How the award |
Sandford Orcas village hall was bult in 1928. In March last year the roof was surveyed and the report said the asbestos tiles and much of the roof required replacement. The work is likely to cost £150,000. The hall has savings of £17,500 and Viridor Credits is offering to provide £100,000. Dorset CC is likely to contribute £5,000 and fund raising by the villagers is continuing. The Community Fund award will be put towards the overall cost. Report |
The refurbishment work is now almost complete. The painters are on site applying the last coats of paint. Shortly we will be receiving details from the hall committee of the forthcoming grand re-opening. When they arrive they will be posted here for all to see and read. An extra-special coffee morning will be held tomorrow, Saturday [14th May]. it is a chance for people to see the £200,000 refurbishment. Chairman of the hall committee Mike Foley said he was delighted with the result. He said: "The hall was built in 1928 and it's been a worry for years and always bitterly cold in the winter. We considered pulling it down and rebuilding but that was too big for a small village like ours. So we aimed for a major refurbishment and it is absolutely fabulous." |
