Community Fund Award Winners for 2016 Announced
Announcing the names of the 29 winners the Secretary of Rotary Charity Fundraisers said “This year 16 new charities and good causes were included in the awards. Four of these were from villages and hamlets who have not received an award before. In all 74 different charities and good causes in the DT9 postcode area have now benefitted from Rotary Community Fund awards in the past three years”. The four new villages and hamlets to benefit are Charlton Horethorne, Over Compton, Oborne and Leigh.
Winners in the up to £2,000 award level were The Gryphon School for their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Ten Tors Challenge programme. Bishops Caudle All Saints Primary School Parents Association for materials to upgrade the school’s swimming pool and Sherborne Primary School Eco Committee to purchase 4/5 chicken plus a coop and run. The eggs produced will be used in the school and the 50+ SEN children at the school will be able to feed the chicken, collect the eggs and clean them out. In addition the project will enhance the whole school’s understanding of where food comes from.
All the award winners were selected by an independent panel of judges from applications to the four levels of awards.
The President of the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles David Havard said “These awards once again demonstrate the wide diversity of charities and good cause that exists in and around Sherborne. It is our great pleasure to help so many of them each year.”
